About the Council

About the Flinders Council

Established on the 26th February 1908 and like all Councils, Flinders Council is concerned with governance and the safe and effective operation of the community.

Much more than the three R's of the past (rates, roads and rubbish), Flinders Council now finds itself firmly involved in areas that impact on tourism, economic development, health and the general well being of the Furneaux community and environment.

Our Council District is huge with the Victorian/Tasmanian border being our northern boundary. In the south we almost reach the main Tasmanian island.

Flinders Council is also often the first point of contact for:

  • people wishing to do business within the region
  • tourists wanting to visit the region
  • people who want to relocate into the region

And we are happy to guide you to the right people if you fall into any of these categories.
