Community Grants Round Two – Supporting Access and Inclusion

Flinders Council is proud to support two inspiring local projects through Round Two of the Community Grants Program, which this round focused on improving public access to community-use facilities.
✅ Walk Safely – Furneaux Museum
Applicant: Carol Cox on behalf of the Furneaux Museum
Amount Awarded: $6,000
The “Walk Safely” project will enhance accessibility at the Museum precinct by widening key pathways that are currently too narrow for wheelchairs and mobility aids. Guided by a recently completed Interpretation Plan, the upgrade will include expanding the existing paths beside the Nissen Hut and near the Muttonbird Shed to a new width of 1.6m. This ensures safer, more inclusive access for all members of our community, while preserving the integrity of the existing path network.
✅ Inclusive Beach Access – Allports Beach
Applicant: Naomi Creek
Amount Awarded: $4,000
Allports Beach is a much-loved spot in Emita, but the lack of accessible infrastructure has meant many residents and visitors have been unable to enjoy it. This project will improve physical access to the sandy beach, making Allports more inclusive for people with mobility challenges. Community feedback strongly supported the need for better beach access, and this grant will help turn that vision into reality.

The Flinders Council Community Grants Program supports projects that benefit our community, and we look forward to announcing the next round soon.
