Working with and for the community to achievea self sufficient, healthy Aboriginal community,Promoting social, economic and culture pride.
The Flinders Island Aboriginal Association Incorporated was first established in 1971. The organisation is governed by a committee of community elected Aboriginal members.
F.I.A.A.I own and provide a Housing Program to Aboriginal people and others on the island. There is a Health Service with monthly visits by a Doctor as well as access to other medical professionals this is all available to members. The Aged Care Program offers in home assistanceas well as meals on wheels. The Sport and Recreation Program works with the youth. The Community Development and Employment Program operates a yard maintenance crew, as well as running Thule Farm, which is a viable community enterprise. The C.D.E.P participants run a market garden on land owned by the organisation. The Arts and Craft Program gives local community members access to facilities and tutors allowing them to improve and expand upon their already existing artistic skills as well as learning new skills.
F.I.A.A.I own and operate the only bakery on the island.
The Drug and Alcohol Program runs drug and alcohol awareness programsand or access to off island help when needed. F.I.A.A.I is an agent for Centrelink.
