The Islander Way project team has had a busy start to the new year, and Dianne and Sarah are looking forward to their return to the Island this week.

Now that the Community Survey has closed, the team will be collating the information gathered from the survey, postcards and their numerous conversations with the Island community, which will result in an interim report by the end of April. However, there will still be many other opportunities to connect  with the team as the Islander Way progresses through 2022. Dianne will be commencing a five-week stay on 21 March.

Aside from their community engagement, Dianne and Sarah have also been meeting with a group of significant, external stakeholders this month, including representatives from the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Tourism Tasmania, Visit Northern Tasmania and the Department of State Growth.

Community workshops

The team will be conducting a day of workshops in Whitemark on Thursday, 31st March from 9am – 5pm.There will be three topics – a visitor pledge for the Island, your vision and values for tourism and initial ideas for business and community projects that align with regenerative tourism. The workshops will be publicised via the Islander Way website www.islanderway.co, the Community Noticeboard and other communications.

Tourism and business operators forum

This forum will be designed specifically for tourism and business operators on the Island. It will focus on a deeper understanding of regenerative tourism and how businesses can collaborate with each other and with the community to develop a positive and resilient Island economy. The forum will run for approximately 2.5 hours. A tentative date is set for Friday, 8th April.

Business and community project accelerator program

Some of the business and community projects will be developed and tested through the project’s business accelerator program. In preparation for that program, its facilitator, Roberto Daniele (Changemakers Lab), will be visiting the Island from 25th April – 1st May, with a view to its mid-year commencement.
