Our Award Winning Road
At the Civil Contractors Federation of Tasmania awards last week, Stabilised Pavements Australia won the $2m to $5m category for the roadworks on Palana road. Congratulations to the team and a big Thank You, for being such great Contractors to work with.
In other big news, Council received a formal letter from the Deputy Premier, Michael Ferguson, advising us that the State Government will take over ownership and maintenance of the sealed section of Palana Road north from the airport to Five Mile Jim Road. The removal of this further section of road from Council’s asset register, will have a large effect on reducing the costs associated with our depreciation and ongoing maintenance schedules.
In addition, Minister Ferguson has advised us that the State Government will also take ownership of any additional sections of Palana Road that are sealed in the future, encouraging us to advocate to the Australian Government for funds to seal the remainder of the road. We will definitely continue to talk to the Government about this great opportunity.
As always, we appreciate the Deputy Premier’s support of the Furneaux Islands and their communities.
