Fin Fish Farming - Public Meeting - September 2022 update
The meeting, held in the evening of 29th August, was well attended with more than 100 people turning out to hear presentations from renowned environmentalist, Louise Cherrie; John Adams and Lynn Albert of the Department of Natural Resources & Environment; as well as a video presentation from the Cape Barren Island community. These informative presentations gave rise to some good debate from our community members resulting in the following unopposed motion to be submitted by Council to the appropriate government department, “The Furneaux group of islands does not support fin fish farming in our island waters”.
Council will continue to lobby politicians and take every opportunity to state our community’s opposition to any fin fish farms in our pristine waters.

Mayor
