The Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) is sharing concept plans with the Island community for upgrading key campgrounds to enhance the visitor experience for campers.

The Tasmanian Government has committed funding through the “Flinders Island Camping Upgrades and Recreational Vehicle (RV) Access” project.

This project provides much needed funds to revitalise Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) assets on Flinders Island, including upgrades to key campground facilities. It also aims to improve road access for vehicle based camping at these sites.

Over several years, the PWS has consulted with Flinders Council, Flinders Island Business Inc (FIBI), and the local community to identify areas on the island to promote to visitors. Based on this consultation, three sites have been selected for improvements under the project:

  • NE River Day Use Area
  • Trousers Point Campground and beach access
  • Allports Campground and Day Use Area (toilets and BBQs)

Concept plans for these sites are available for download here - hard copies are available for viewing at the Council office and on the community notice boards. Community members are encouraged to have a look, and if you have any questions, please email flindersproject@parks.tas.gov.au.

Local businesses will be invited to quote on the works in due course.
