Removal of the desalination plant at Lady Barron

Taswater will soon be decommissioning the reverse osmosis desalination plant located on Franklin Parade, Lady Barron. This is one of the final stages of the Henderson Dam upgrade project, which has provided improved drinking water security to Whitemark residents for generations to come.

With the Henderson Dam now full after recent rainfall events, all water restrictions and water carting have ended and the reverse osmosis plant is no longer needed. The decommissioning will commence on Monday 18 July and work is anticipated to take two weeks. This will include the use of a crane to lift the plant onto trucks for transport off Flinders Island.

Once the plant has been removed, TasWater will work with Flinders Council and TasPorts to prepare the site for future opportunities. On behalf of TasWater, I thank the people of Lady Barron for their understanding and patience throughout this project and look forward to inviting you to a celebration of the project’s conclusion in the coming months
