2025 Airport Emergency Exercise Wrap-Up

On Monday 14 April, Flinders Airport hosted a successful emergency exercise involving around 45 participants from across our local and regional emergency response agencies.
The exercise was months in the making, with planning meetings kicking off three months in advance to ensure all agencies were well prepared. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was also issued ahead of time to inform pilots of the scheduled activity.
The exercise officially began at 2:00pm and was closely observed by evaluators from Tasmania Police, SES, and Flinders Council. Emergency services arrived on scene within 15 to 25 minutes, demonstrating an impressive response time and strong coordination across teams.
The activity gave crews an opportunity to practise roles, test systems, and strengthen communication in a simulated emergency. Tasmania Police formally assumed command early in the exercise, while teams from the Tasmanian Fire Service, Ambulance Tasmania, and SES worked together to manage the situation safely and efficiently.
Once the exercise was complete, all participants regrouped at the SES Operations Room for a short debrief and a well-earned BBQ.
A more detailed review will be conducted over the coming weeks, with feedback helping to improve local emergency preparedness into the future. A report will also be submitted to CASA as part of regular compliance.
Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this important training event—it’s great to know we’re in capable hands.
