Council Update

We'd like to let the community know that, as of 30 June 2026, Flinders Council is operating with one fewer Councillor.

Under the Local Government Act 1993, a Councillor position automatically becomes vacant if a Councillor is absent without leave from three consecutive ordinary Council meetings. As a result, Chris Rhodes is no longer a Councillor, and the required notification has been provided to the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.

With local government elections only a few months away, it is expected that the position will remain vacant until the new Council is elected later this year. Until then, Council will continue to operate as normal, with the remaining Councillors continuing to represent our community and work on the projects and services that matter to Flinders Island.
