Recycle Rewards is coming to Flinders Island – starting May 26!
Tasmania’s new container refund scheme Recycle Rewards will launch on Flinders Island from May 26, with extended opening times at the Whitemark Waste Facility to make returns easier for everyone.
This is a big step forward in reducing litter and increasing recycling across the state – and now it’s our island’s turn to get involved!
You can return eligible drink containers and receive 10 cents per container. It’s simple, rewarding, and helps build a more circular economy right here in Tasmania.

As the community gets familiar with the new system, we ask that you limit the size of your returns to help keep things flowing.

You can also choose to donate your refunds to an official Donation Partners.
Drink containers make up around 45% of Tasmania’s litter by volume. This scheme aims to cut that in half, create new jobs, and turn waste into new recycled products.
On Flinders, the refund point is operated through the Whitemark Waste Facility in partnership with TOMRA Cleanaway, the network operator.
