Glass recycling project takes top Waste NoT Award
Flinders Council proudly congratulates the WRAPS (Waste Reducing Activities by Producing Solutions) Association on being named the overall winner at the 2025 Waste NoT Awards for their trailblazing Northern Glass Crushers project.
Based in Killiecrankie, the WRAPS team has transformed more than 42,000 bottles and jars into useful aggregate for concrete, driveways, drainage, and gardens—diverting over 14.5 tonnes of glass from the Whitemark Landfill since November 2021. This grassroots effort has not only cut waste and reduced freight costs but also provided a local, sustainable solution for a common challenge faced by remote communities.
The Waste NoT Awards, delivered by Circular North and supported by the Tasmanian Government, shine a spotlight on the changemakers across northern Tasmania working to reduce waste and promote a circular economy. WRAPS' win is a significant moment of recognition for our island and a testament to what can be achieved through community collaboration and innovation.
“This is a fantastic example of local ingenuity,” said Circular North Chair John Marik. “WRAPS has shown how a small island community can take charge of its waste challenges and turn them into opportunities for sustainability and resource recovery.”
