Council Thanks Cr Peter Rhodes for his Service

Flinders Council extends its gratitude to Cr Peter Rhodes for his commitment and service to the Flinders Island community following his resignation as Councillor, effective Monday 3 February 2025.
Cr Rhodes was first elected to Flinders Council on 3 November 2011 and has served as a Councillor for over 13 years. Throughout his tenure, he has contributed to key community initiatives and projects across the Furneaux Group.
Over the years, Cr Rhodes has been a member of numerous committees, demonstrating a commitment to improving community outcomes. His contributions include service on the Furneaux Group Aviation Special Committee, ensuring the region’s connectivity and advocating for the needs of residents and visitors alike. He was also a member of former committees such as the Waste Management Special Committee, Community Development Special Committee, the Flinders Council NRM Special Committee, and the Ideas and Innovations Committee, helping to enhance the island’s environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
Cr Rhodes’ service extended beyond Council chambers, with contributions to the Flinders Island District High School Association, the Islander Way Project Champions Group and Flinders Island Tourism and Business Association. His involvement with TasWater’s Shareholder’s Group and the Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator’s Customer Consultative Committee highlights his dedication to ensuring essential services met the needs of our community.
Mayor Rachel Summers acknowledged Cr Rhodes’ contributions, stating, “Peter’s dedication as a Councillor for over 13 years has made a lasting impact on our Council and community. His contributions helped shape initiatives that will continue to benefit the Furneaux Islands for years to come. We thank Peter for his years of service and wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
