Holloway Park Community Ideas Survey
What we heard
Thank you to everyone who shared their ideas for the future of Holloway Park.
We received 26 responses, with people sharing a wide range of ideas about how the park could be better used into the future.
There was strong interest in making greater use of Holloway Park, while retaining the things people value about the site – particularly its location, open space, natural environment and its role as a community space.
The most commonly selected ideas for future use were:
- Short-stay camping / visitor facilities – 69%
- Private investment / partnership – 58%
- Housing / accommodation – 54%
- Dump Ezy / RV waste disposal – 31%
- Picnic / barbecue area – 31%
- Public open space – 23%
People could select more than one option, so these results reflect a mix of ideas and priorities rather than one preferred proposal.
Some clear themes emerged
People told us they would like to see Holloway Park used more, with better basic facilities and upkeep. There was also a strong message that any future use should consider community access, the existing natural setting, affordability and the needs of current users.
Ideas raised included camping and cabins, worker and short-term accommodation, toilets and showers, BBQ and kitchen facilities, improved signage and lighting, and better presentation of the grounds.
Importantly, people also raised practical questions about septic and ground conditions, water use, waste management, Crown land arrangements, ongoing management and the cost to ratepayers.
What happens next?
The survey is not a decision about the future of Holloway Park.
Council will use the ideas, priorities and concerns raised through the survey to help guide future discussions and decisions about the site.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say.
